Diomedes Ancient Coins
The Diomedes Collection
I started collecting coins during the COVID pandemic and my interest in classical history led me quickly to the coins of ancient Greece and Rome. It helps that the coins are also beautiful and tactile. My collection started with the incuse coins of Southern Italy but broadened to include cities across Greece and Asia Minor. Any coin with a story interests me and I hope this comes across in the text associated with each coin in the collection.

The site name is in tribute to the favourite warrior of Athena who fought the Olympian Ares during the Trojan war

"He fights with fury and fills men's souls with panic. I hold him mightiest of them all; we did not fear even their great champion Achilles, son of an immortal though he be, as we do this man: his rage is beyond all bounds, and there is none can vie with him in prowess."

In my spare time I am the Secretary of the Numismatic Society of Ireland (Northern Branch).
